Magilite

A magical crystalline substance which gives the world its magic.

Common name: Soul stone

Description

Thought to contain the soul, magilite is a crystal-like substance crafted by the God of Andaril himself, Atlas, to give the world its magic.

Magilite is found in trace amounts in creatures’ blood and and within their cells; this amount if what determines how much magical potential (= “mana”) a creature has.

Within the cells, the magilite is used by special organelles that produce ATP-analog molecules for the cells to use as an alternative energy source; this organelle is one of the reasons that larger creatures can thrive on Andaril without needing to eat astronomical amounts of food.

The magilite within the blood (and nerves) is what is actually available for ‘magic’, through the so-called magilite pathways of the body. Becuase measuring the total magilite in every cell is virtually impossible, people measure the concentration of magilite in blood to determine the magical potential of people and creatures alike.

Aside from inside living creatures, magilite can also be found in the environment; in the earth, water, and air, although the concentration declines rapidly underground (virtually none below 1km of the surface). Trace amounts of magilite is also what gives the mineral ‘Flarestone‘ its magical capacitance.

Properties

Density: 4.00 g/cm3

Energy (flow rate): 1.16 Gigawatts / 1kT of TnT per hour per gram

You can think of magilite as the fourth World Stone: the “Stone of Magic“. Magilite is actually a higher-dimensional singular object, connected to the three World Stones through the higher dimensions, like the prongs of a fork on a 2D piece of paper, merely appearing like billions of distinct individual particles because of how it intersects with the third dimension.

How magilite facilitates the use of magic is by opening gates to the higher dimensions, with a larger mass of magilite allowing higher apertures to be opened, and by extension, more powerful magic. As such, the energy within magilite itself is merely used for opening this aperture and controlling the energy that comes out (e.g., its kinetic energy, rotation, temperature, etc).

The gates connect magilite to the Stone of Destruction (raw power/energy), Stone of Creation (for funneling stable matter, such as for water magic), and the Stone of Life & Time (acting as the coordinator behind the scenes; required to weave human intentions into their desired physical/magical effect, since mortal minds are entirely incapable of comprehending the complexity of magic on their own, the billions of vectors and physical processes happening every millisecond).

As magilite replenishes its own energy over time (absorbing energy straight from the other World Stones from the higher dimensions), it is virtually inexhaustible. While inexhaustible, magilite does have a sort of “flow-rate”, being limited to around 4.184 Terajoules (equivalent to 1kT of TnT) per hour, or 1.16 Gigawatts of energy (1.16*109 joules per second) per gram of magilite.

You can think of magilite as a sort of energy-capacitator, loading energy from the higher dimensions to be released in the 3rd dimension.

Misc Information

If somehow you managed to detonate all the energy binding magilite (including its “tendril” in the higher dimensions), the energy released by a single gram of magilite decaying through the higher dimensions would be over tenfold to a hundredfold its flow rate in the 3rd dimension, all dumped into the 3rd dimension as pure energy in the span of a single split second. This hypothetical doomsday device is also called a magilite bomb.
