The World Stones are 10-dimensional objects created by an unknown, exceptionally powerful god, long before Andaril, and even its God, Atlas, was born. There are only three known World Stones, all sources of unimaginable power.
The Three Stones & Their Powers
Each of the three World Stones have a unique, immensely powerful abilities, essentially making any wielder a god amongst men, seemingly violating the very laws of the world.
The green Stone of Life & Time, in possession of Kiryu Ardoladd (Renji Caldara) during the first book, can provide visions of the past and future, heal any injury in mere seconds, potentially bring people back to life, distort/slow/speed/rewind time, and even give entirely inanimate objects true life and awareness.
The purple Stone of Creation, in possession of the Allfather Demon as his heart, is able to create nearly anything out of thin air, from monsters to entirely new dimensions. However, while it can create husks that mimic life (Demons), it cannot create true, self-aware life. Through mastery of its abilities, you can even use its powers destructively, through so-called “reverse-creation magic“.
The red Stone of Destruction, in possession of the last cove of Albinar, historically wielded by Eira Everfrost to close the gates of Etheria during the Chaos Times, is an artefact of raw power, able to disintegrate anything and everything (with the exception of the Stones themselves). It has by far the most amount of energy out of the three Stones, possibly wielded by a primordial God to absorb galactic energy, and distribute this energy to the other two Stones.
The ultimate ability tied to the World Stones is achieved only when all three stones coalesce. The culmination of power and abilities when combining the three Stones allows the wielder to destroy and create an entirely new world in their own image. On its own, the Stone of Creation lacks the Stone of Life & Time’s ability to weave time and awareness, as well as the raw power of the Stone of Destruction, thus limiting it to merely creating small, corrupt pocket dimensions like the toxic, cavernous wasteland that is Etheria.
10D Structure, The Science Behind It All
Explaining the Abilities
The three World Stones are all 10-dimensional objects, with the Stone of Creation and the Stone of Destruction being relatively “simple” Dekaspheres (10D Spheres), that merely pull or push energy from the 10 dimensions in order to ‘destroy‘ and ‘create‘ matter/energy (thus following the Law of Conservation of Energy).
The Stone of Life & Time, however, is an immensely complex 10D Hyper-Horn-Torus with a white-hole singularity at its core (= the opposite of a black hole), which functions like a receiver tapping into the 0th dimension (= the foundational unbound nothingness of the Universe) and its infinite point-consciousness-field in order to grant the stone itself, and whatever is affected by it, consciousness (and by extension: self-awareness, intelligence, creativity, and Love/”goodness”). The Stone’s own consciousness (yes, the stone itself is intelligent and aware) is analogous to a 10th dimensional accretion disc of pure consciousness, swirling out of the singularity.
As for the time-manipulation, visions of the past/future/other realities, and of course “healing”, the Stone of Life & Time achieves this by connecting to the 4th, 5th or 6th dimensions.
By connecting to the 4th dimension (= this universe with both past and future visible in the present), the stone can grant visions of the past/future to the wielder, as well as manipulate local space-time bubbles to slow/speed-up time. Reversing time (and by extension “healing”) is ultimately impossible by manipulating the 4th dimension due to paradox-generation (e.g., the Grandfather Paradox), hence requiring the higher dimensions and alternative mechanisms.
By connecting to the 5th dimension (which according to the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics includes every possible course of action in THIS universe), the stone can heal any injury. The Stone of Life & Time achieves this by essentially rewriting a bubble of space-time at the quantum level, copying over (via quantum entanglement) and collapsing the quantum wave function within the host universe to match that of a donor universe. In practice, this equates to the stone looking through every possible parallel world, finding one where an injury never happened, and rewriting a bubble of space-time to the exact same state as within the donor world.
Whereas technically the 6th dimension (which includes every starting position arrangement of the universe, i.e. every CONCEAVABLE universe), would allow the stone to change the shape of your body to whatever conceivable form, looking through and copying the quantum state from the 6th dimension is a lot harder (and takes more energy) than merely rewriting it to a state from another parallel 5th dimensional analogue universe. While beings like Atlas can utilize this ability, mere mortals cannot.
Mass, Energy, and other Features
Each of the three World Stones have a total Mass-Energy estimated in the millions, to hundreds of millions of solar masses (~1.99*1036 to 1.99*1039 kg), equivalent to a small globular cluster or dwarf galaxy’s worth of mass. This mass is what is used up to power the Stones’ abilities (in accordance with the Law of Conservation of Energy).
Being 10-dimensional objects, the World Stones are able to pack all this immense weight (and subsequent gravity) into the higher dimensions, allowing them to exist without collapsing into black holes. Because only a tiny sliver of their mass ever interacts with the three-dimensional world, they appear and behave like any old small crystal, having the inertia and weight of a plain stone fitting in one’s hand (e.g., 200g, 5cm).
The technical explanation: M-Theory classifies the fundamental forces (Electromagnetism, Strong Force, Weak Force) as “open strings” anchored to the 3D “brane”, whereas Gravity is theorized to consist of “closed strings” capable of escaping into the higher dimensions (The Bulk).
As 10-dimensional objects, the World Stones are able to change their apparent mass, size, and shape by shifting how they intersect with the third dimension, appearing either smaller, larger, or in an entirely different shape or weight, based on what the user wills.
Because of their true mass being in the order of magnitude of an entire galaxy, the force required to break the stones scales proportionally, making them absolutely indestructible by anything in the third dimension.
Since the stones have the thermal-mass of an entire galaxy, they function as perfect thermal superconductors, instantly dissipating virtually limitless heat (or coldness) across it’s total true mass.
The World Stones’ distinct colors (and the glow when in use) comes from the immense Hawking Background Radiation that bleeds from the higher dimensions into the 3D world.
