The King of the Sea, an apex coastal predator the size of a small whale, Mosasaur
Description
The sea tyrant is a streamlined aquatic reptile with heavy leathery scales, a shark-like vertical tail fluke, and massive jaws lined with conical tearing teeth. It’s essentially a meaner variant of the mosasaur.
The sea tyrant is an absolute menace to coastal fishermen, regularly capsizing boats to devour fishermen whole. It’s fast, heavy as a whale, and mean as a rabid shark.
Many attempts have been made to eradicate the sea tyrants, in hopes of protecting local fishermen, but all attempts have thus far resulted in varying degrees of failure.
The sea tyrants are even called the drakes of the seas for their ferocity and the danger they pose.
As if they weren’t terrifying enough, the sea tyrants have a second set of teeth within their jaws, the pterygoid teeth, which are hooked to better push writhing prey down its throat.
Behaviour
The sea tyrants are solitary, highly territorial apex hunters who regularly fight each other for territory. These battles give them dozens of terrifying scars, on top of the ones they already get from harpoons and other human weaponry.
Because the sea tyrants aren’t fully aquatic, i.e., they still need to breathe air, they thrive in coastal waters and continental shelves, but can easily be found in deeper waters hunting squids because they can hold their breath for up to three hours.
They also technically lay soft eggs like other lizards, but their eggs hatch in the sea almost immediately after being laid.
Diet
The sea tyrants predominantly eat pelagic (coastal) sharks, large fish, other marine reptiles and mammals (such as dolphins and small whales), but won’t hesitate to eat humans.
Misc
The sea-dwelling race of nautians view the sea tyrants as the pinnacle of power and dominance, and as such, any who manage to tame the king of the seas is instantly hailed as a “sea god”, the highest honor amongst the species.
