Red Pike

A pike specifically adapted to freshwater lakes high in iron and tannins

Threat Scale: Upper Mouse

Description

The Red Pike is a subspecies of common pike that has adapted to the reddish lakes high in tannins and iron, showing a distinct rust-red coloring.

Aside from the unique reddish color, the red pike is near identical to the common pike, albeit only around 10% of the population size.

Behaviour

The red pike, much like the common pike, is an opportunistic predator that will even cannibalize smaller pikes if it gets the chance to. They are ambush predators that spend most of their time floating perfectly still, hidden in foliage along the edges of the lakes, waiting for perfect opportunity to strike a fish, or perhaps some unlucky guy’s toes.

Diet

Smaller fish, smaller yellow-streaked bass, smaller pikes.
