A house-cat-sized melanistic lion endemic to rainforests.
Description
The pygmy lion is a cute predatory feline endemic to the rainforests of the Emerald Enclave, resembling a miniature black lion the size of a large housecat, with dark orange or brown streaks of fur that act as camouflage.
Behaviour
The pygmy lion is predominantly nocturnal, using its black fur to blend into the night when hunting. Because the rainforest houses many dangers, including snakes and larger felines that predate them, the pygmy lion is highly skittish and rarely lets people close to it.
Unlike their larger cousins in the savannahs, the pygmy lions are solitary animals, behaving more like tigers than their larger, social ancestors.
Diet
Because of their small size, pygmy lions predominantly hunt small marsupials and rodents, but they will eat lizards, birds, and even fish from small rivers and ponds.
To hunt tree-dwelling marsupials, the pygmy lion is an exceptionally avid climber, using its sharp claws to rapidly scale tall trees.
