Population size: 3,250
Life span: 32
Average threat scale: Wolf
Description
An ancient race of almost-extinct, insect-like humans, created by combining humans and butterflies using the powers of the Stone of Creation.
They are mostly vegetarian, but occasionally eat small animals here and there, especially during their transitional rituals’ feasts.
They have a rudimentary culture, centered around the main transitional ritual of cocooning. To the insectoids, it’s of utmost importance who has the prettiest, and largest wings, as they are the ones who shall lead their hives.
History
The very first insectoid was created thousands of years ago by a now unknown albinar (abscondita) experimenting with the Stone of Creation, years before it was stolen by Yami Murasaki, the Allfather Demon.
The albinar used the Stone of Creation to fuse the soul and body of a human criminal with that of a butterfly.
As both the human and the butterfly were noncorrupted, organic lifeforms, the combination of the two organisms was also a fully fledged biological creature, with a very real soul. As such, insectoids differ from other humanoids created using the Stone of Creation (e.g., demons).
Following this first experiment’s success, the Clan of Creation started using the stone to turn all future criminals into insectoid hybrids. These hybrids were shunned and cast away from society, being forced to live in specific, restricted lands, away from all other people.
After the albinar hid themselves from the world, the remaining insectoids kept themselves to their lands, breeding and becoming a real threat to the other races.
They were eventually pushed back, becoming almost entirely extinct. It seems however, that some part of the indominable human spirit was left in them, as the insectoid race is still alive, albeit in extremely low numbers, in deep forests and caves.
Other Information
Insectoids are fully fertile amongst themselves, and lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young.
The insectoid larvae are particularly gruesome, looking eerily human yet monstrous.
As a transitional ritual, the insectoids throw feast-like celebrations before their larvae enter their cocooning phases.
Most insectoids never fully develop wings that could support their weight, and as such, are constrained to the ground. Those that do develop wings are revered in the insectoid hives. The larger the pair of wings an insectoid has, the better their social standing (e.g., the king/queen has the largest, prettiest wings).
